Pasadena Star-News is reporting (and tweeting) that Minnesota-based artist Andrew Leicester has been hired to design a bridge for the proposed (not yet officially approved) Gold Line foothill extension that would once again cross over from the median of the 210 freeway in Arcadia.
GoldLineThe tracks would connect to existing tracks and another approved but yet-to-be-designed bridge above Santa Anita Avenue on the way to a station at the southeast corner of the intersection of First Avenue and St. Joseph across the street from 24 Hour Fitness.
IowaBridgeThese are just two of the many completed works and projects in the works depicted at Leicester’s web site.

  1. KAREN BEATTON says:

I feel that earthquake country is not the place for underground and mass transportation. If the taxpayer has to pay more, then I am AGAINST it.

  2. Are there more examples of his bridges?
Does he design the entire bridge structure or just the decor of the bridge?
The 2 examples leave a lot to be desired, especially the one with the windmills on each corner – that one is dreadful.
The other example is more of a wall than a bridge, it appears. This fellow needs to be much more in tune to Californis and the San Gabriel Valley before he designs a bridge. Aren’t there any local bridge designers? Art Center is only a few miles away, as are dozens of other universities and colleges.
How about inviting him to meet some local people, and touring the local area such as the Arboretum, schools and universities, the local architecture, the historic buildings, Santa Anita Race Track, mountains, parks, trails, pack station, Spanish influence, and art decco at the track, local wildlife, etc. I don’t think that a homage to the Indians is what most prople associate with the San Gabriel Valley.
    Just my opinion,
    Beth Costanza
