Candidates to question each other

Tuesday’s Council Candidate forum promises to deliver several unique elements for candidates and attendees, including the rare opportunity for candidates to ask any question of one of their opponents in front of  the audience.

The forum sponsored by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, the Arcadia Association of REALTORS, the Arcadia Woman’s Club, and Arcadia Weekly will be held at 7 p.m. March 23 at the Arcadia Woman’s Club, 324 S. First Ave.

All six candidates for three seats up for grabs in the April 13 General Election will attend and begin by using three minutes to introduce themselves and present answers in any way they wish to three questions sent to them in advance — Powerpoint, video, easel, verbal, etc..

This forum moderated by Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Forum co-chairman Scott Hettrick will be focused primarily on local business issues, is free and open to the public.

After the introductory three-minutes and the questions amongst each other, candidates will be asked questions they have not seen before by the moderator.

Time will also be permitted for pre-screened questions from the audience read by forum officials.

    Hello,

I would like to know if any of the candidates have any plans to stop Westfield from blocking growth in Arcadia. Why is a foreign corporation being allowed to hold Arcadia hostage?

  2. For the record: Paul Cheng has posted a photo of myself (Beth Costanza, Executive Director of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce), Chamber of Commerce President Elect Helen Romero Shaw and Board Member Arlynn Robinson. We were sitting down to dinner together at an LA County event, and Mr Cheng came up behind us – none of us had ever met him – quickly introduced himself and asked us to turn around. There was suddenly a woman photographer on the other side of the table who snapped the photo of us with Mr Cheng, the photo is now on his website. None of us in the photo either consented to having our picture taken with Mr Cheng, nor did he ask our permission to use the photo.
Please know that none of us support Mr Cheng and such underhanded maneuvers. I would question ANY endorsements he says he has due to this dishonest portrayal of the three of us. We need an honest, straightforward City Council, not a councilman who will bend the truth to get elected, and then, if elected, there would be no stopping his treachery.
    Sincerely, Beth Costanza

    Dear Beth:

I am sorry that you felt that I was suggesting there was an implied endorsement.
Endorsements are listed on our website and they are approved. As you can see, your name is not there and we have never suggested that you endorse us.

Our staff picked pictures of those they felt were the most photogenic people to represent the community. I thought you and your friends looked gorgeous.

However, I understand your concern and will work with my team to take down your pictures asap.

    Thanks.

    Paul
