The fifth annual Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens L.A. Garden Show, beginning today and running through Sunday, May 2, is themed “Living Green” this year and will again feature samples of gardens from top designers as well as a market of all manner of flowers, soil and related items. Among the highlights, a new permanent “Succulent Seascape” garden by Jeff Moore that amazingly emulates an undersea coral reef you might see while snorkeling.
See video below for a preview of this year’s show. and the second video featuring highlights of a preview for the 2009 show.

Last Saturday( 5/1/10), i attended the 2010 LA Garden Show held in Arboretum. It was fantastic.
Min Mey and I were guests ( the ticket was $125 each) of Christine and Jeff on the Orange Grove. They have been supporting this activity in the past years. We went a couple of times before too.
We visited the booths first while there was bright sunshine.
At 6 PM, the dinner area opened, then we tasted those nice hors d’oeuvres, and also got to visit very beautiful plants arrangements.
The dinner had turkey and beef as the main course accompanied by healthy salads. It was a buffet style.
Nice wines were served from several stands. One of which is served by Swanson. When i told him he looked always the same, in return, he said he would vote for me even though the election was over and i was not part of it. Swanson is a great guy and a very good supporter of the Arcadia Library.
Vincent Foley, the Arcadia Citizen of the Year 2010, and his lovely wife, Dolores, were also present.
Vincent did a wonderful job of an auctioneer. He might have raised more than $10,000 through the auction of several plants, and 2 dinners with the CEO of the Arboretum, Richard Schulhof ($1,900 each).
There were also silent auctions. And Christ bought one plant which blossums with very smelly flowers. I can not even remember the name of this very unusual plant, it flowers only once a year and Huntington Library always displayed that occasion.
When it was darker and got cooler, we decided to leave. We each got a gift bag with a little plant in it.
That was a memorable night.
