Law Day success Saturday

The City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Chinese Association held another successful free Ask-a-Lawyer Program at the Arcadia Public Library on Saturday, May 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the nationwide Law Day celebration.
Dozens of volunteer attorneys were available to meet with the public and provide them with a free brief one-on-one consultation on general legal questions, including a summary of legal rights and general advice on a “walk-up” basis.
Three financial advisors were also on hand.

“Our goal is for the various volunteers to provide the public with as much information as possible,” said event chairperson and Mayor Pro-Tem Gary Kovacic. “Law Day helps hundreds of people every year, thousands of people since the event’s inception. With financial advisors, Law Day offers one more area of information to people who may be able to benefit from some professional input.”
Law Day attorneys answered questions on immigration, consumer rights, landlord-tenant
issues, insurance problems, property, family law, bankruptcy, government benefits, employee rights, workers’ compensation, personal injury and other topics. Informational brochures and pamphlets are available as additional legal resources.
“Offering a service that will guide the public in the right direction regarding their legal issues is extremely important and fulfilling,” said Pearl Chen, President of the Arcadia Chinese Association.”Each year we see an increasing number of people lining up early in the morning for this event. … we might even need a larger location next year.”
More than 26 volunteers from the Arcadia Chinese Association provided event day coordination, refreshments and assist in language translations where needed at this year’s Law Day event.
Translation services were available in Mandarin, Cantonese and Spanish.

We locate the 
i met one of my collegues last night at a function.
Dr Yang is a cardiolgist and lived in San Marino, but thinking to move to Arcadia.
He went to the Library for the free legal counsel offered on the Law Day. He told me that it was a huge success, everything was very organized. There were a lot of people attending this activity and they all gained benefits from it.
I believe this LD was started by Gary Kovacic and several lawyers about 15 years ago. They worked with Arcadia Chinese Associaton to offer the answers to legal issues particularly regarding immigration and related subjects which the new immigrants or would be were eager to know.
During the ensuing years, i believe many many new immigrants who live in Arcadia and neighboring cities have been benefitted a great deal from these meaningful activies.
As the cosponsoring organization of this funtion, the City of Arcadia should be pround of as much as the ACA should always be.
