16-year-old bicyclist hit, dies

A 16-year-old resident of Arcadia has died from injuries sustained Saturday when he was struck while riding his bicycle late Saturday night, Oct. 20, on Santa Anita Avenue.
The Arcadia Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) report that the victim was  stopped for a red arrow in the southbound #1 left turn lane and then, when the light turned green, swerved to the right into the path of a vehicle being driven southbound in the #1 through lane. The 26-year-old male driver of the southbound vehicle, also of Arcadia, stuck the bicyclist, who was thrown from the bike, striking his head, causing severe injury.
The bicyclist was treated by Arcadia Paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

The driver did not appear to be impaired. DUI and toxicology results are pending for both parties. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of collision.
