In 1904 the Clara Villa, owned and operated by Lucky’s daughter Clara, obtained Arcadia’s first liquor license. It offered many attractions for the sporting crowd including gambling as shown in this photograph.
A roof beer garden, bowling and fine food were also available. It was located on the north-west corner of First Avenue and St. Joseph Street, right around the corner from the Oakwood.
Competition was never a problem even when in 1905 an electrical garden was added behind the Oakwood to make it more appealing. Clara’s place had private rooms “available” for parties.
