Turf writer Bortstein dies

Veteran turf writer Larry Bortstein passed away early Sunday morning at Arcadia Methodist Hospital after sustaining a pulmonary embolism Jan. 23.
Bortstein, 67, never regained consciousness and had been on life support since being transported to Methodist following the embolism.

An Arcadia resident, John was a retired data processor of 59 years with TransAmerica.
He was born on Sept. 3, 1925.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline; sons, Mark (Linda), Brock, Paul (Jeanette), Dean, and Jay (Lisa) Evans; his sister, Mary Jane Grossman, and six grandchildren.
