Sunday, May 9 At 7:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a female patient experiencing an altered mental status and general pain. The patient became incoherent and fire personnel determined she was a threat to herself. Arcadia Police Department personnel placed the patient in custody for a psychological evaluation. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for the evaluation and medical treatment.
Tuesday, May 11 At 2:00 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a male patient who was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene, including a 12-lead electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation and medical treatment.
Wednesday, May 12 At 9:19 a.m., Engine 105 and rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported emergency medical assist in the 2000 block of Canyon Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. Fire personnel evaluated the patient’s heart rhythm with a 12-lead electrocardiogram, administered intravenous medications, and transported the patient to an area emergency room for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, May 13 At 3:12 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of San Luis Rey Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a child who had fainted and stopped breathing, but was now breathing on her own. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation and medical treatment.
Friday, May 14 At 10:35 a.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a reported water flow alarm in the 100 block of Diamond Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found water coming from a three-story condominium complex. After further investigation, fire personnel found a broken fire sprinkler head on the second floor of one of the units with water flowing out of the first floor garage. Firefighters used a variety of tools and equipment to stop the flow of water, remove the water from the unit, and restore the fire sprinkler system. The scene was then released to the owner.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 450 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
Volunteer Weekly Activity Report During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 4 hours of volunteer activities. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their valuable time last week in assisting the department with administrative duties at the Fire Prevention Bureau and processing emergency medical services forms and paramedic reports. It is worth noting that all volunteers and department personnel who have access to emergency medical services forms and paramedic reports are trained on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule.
