Takio drums, belly-dancing, high-impact Tai Chi, dozens of attendees dressed in 1970s brightly-colored disco outfits, and the Mayor trying his hand, er… feet, at line dancing.
Those were just a few of the highlights of the annual Arcadia Chinese Association fundraiser gala Saturday night (Nov. 5, 2011) that attracted hundreds of supporters to the Community Center.

This year the theme of “Autumn Nite Fever” sparked men and women to show up in bell-bottom pants, women to wear tight knee-high boots and flowery prints, and men to wear big-collared pastel shirts and heavy necklaces.

During an elaborate multi-course dinner provided by Capital Seafood on Huntington Drive in Arcadia, introductions were made of local dignitaries, including Congresswoman Judy Chu and Assemblymember Mike Eng.
And donations were presented from ACA president Josephine Louie to local organizations the Arcadia Public Library Summer Reading Program, Arcadia Education Foundation, Assistance League Arcadia, AAUW Arcadia, English Conversation Class Student Fund, Arcadia Historical Museum Foundation, Foothill Unity Center, Arcadia White Christmas, and Boy Scouts of America Troop #138.

After that, the disco/1970s theme evolved into many different themes during the post-dinner entertainment, with performances of everything from East Coast Swing to a young east Indian male dancer doing the shimmy and a Shakira-like shaking of his booty, to a troupe of ACA members dancing a choreographed routine to a song from “Mama Mia..” .

It culminating with a line dance that attracted Mayor Gary Kovacic to the dance floor where his wife Barb joined him a short while later.
