Anita Baldwin’s Generosity Revealed

Anita was a very generous woman and during her lifetime was acknowledged for philanthropic work. She donated $200 in 1914 to pay for Arcadia’s first entry in the Pasadena Rose Parade. During World War I she supported the Belgian Relief Fund, headed the Red Star Society, was a friend to the men at Ross Field and donated horses to the Army Remount Service. She donated $50,000 for Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, $50,000 for Babies at the California Hospital and gave support to the American Indians. She was president of the State Humane Society and of the Los Angeles S. P. C. A. In 1923 Anita gave all her thoroughbreds to the Army and her purebred stock of cattle and hogs to agricultural colleges. Thirty of her music compositions were gifted to the Los Angeles Public Library and her American Indian artifacts went to the Southwest Museum.
