Anoakia Breeding Farm on the Santa Anita Ranch

Following E.J. “Lucky” Baldwin’s death in 1909, his younger daughter Anita continued to raise pure-bred livestock on the Santa Anita Ranch. She took over the care of her father’s prize thoroughbred racing greats and showed them in numerous exhibits throughout California. Anita started the “Anoakia Breeding Farm” on the old Baldwin homestead and erected new “modern” buildings and facilities. In a catalogue published in 1916, Anita, as proprietor, featured her collection of purebred livestock, as well as her fathers’ valuable collection.

This photograph of the private stables of Anita Baldwin was one featured in the catalogue.
