On Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 6:12 a.m., the Arcadia Fire Department, along with units from Monrovia, Pasadena, San Gabriel, San Marino, and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to an apartment house fire in the 800 block of Fairview Avenue in the City of Arcadia.
Upon arrival firefighters found fire in an upstairs unit that quickly spread into the attic and eventually travelled the entire attic space of the building. The residents were evacuated by fire personnel with the help of Arcadia P.D. A second alarm and then a third alarm was requested to the scene. All of the units on the upper floor sustained fire damage. All the units on the lower floor sustained water damage. The building was determined to be unsafe to occupy by the City building official. During the firefight and overhaul five firefighters experienced heat exhaustion and three were transported to a local hospital.
The City of Arcadia opened up an evacuation center for the displaced residents and the American Red Cross is working with the displaced residents for short term housing needs. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the total fire loss is estimated at $700,000.
