For the period of Sunday, December 1, through Saturday, December 7, the Police Department responded to 856 calls for service of which 95 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, December 1:
At approximately 10:24 a.m., an officer was dispatched to 140 E. Duarte Road (Dollar Tree) regarding a skimming device located on a register. Upon arrival the store manager informed the officer that a customer pointed out a possible credit card skimming device at one of the registers. There are CCTV cameras facing the subject register and the store manager reviewed the footage but hasn’t been able to locate a suspect. Currently it is unknown when the skimming device was placed at the register. An investigation is pending.
Monday, December 2:
At approximately 11:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Fourth Avenue regarding a battery report. The victim informed officers that she was involved in an argument with her brother, and he struck her in the face and fled the location. An area check was conducted but the suspect was not located.
Tuesday, December 3:
At approximately 1:46 a.m., an officer responded to the parking lot of 400 S. Baldwin Avenue (The Shops at Santa Anita) regarding a report of a female that appeared to be intoxicated and crying. Upon investigation the officer determined that the female was intoxicated and unable to care for herself resulting in her arrest for public intoxication.
Wednesday, December 4:
At approximately 11:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to 150 E. Duarte Road (commercial location) regarding a transient male walking around in the parking lot with his genitalia exposed. Upon arrival, officers located the subject who was still indecent and arrested him.
Thursday, December 5:
At approximately 11:18 a.m., an officer responded to 7 E. Huntington Drive (Denny’s) regarding a male in distress. Upon arrival the store manager informed the officer that a male subject locked himself in the bathroom. The officer was able to remove the male subject from the bathroom without incident. The officer spoke with the male subject who expressed that he is suffering from homelessness and struggling with depression. He also stated that he wanted to set himself on fire and run into oncoming traffic as he had no desire to live. He was previously diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia and is unable to take his medication. Based on the information provided the male was placed on a mental hold and the officer transported him to a behavioral health care facility for treatment.
Friday, December 6:
At approximately 6:10 a.m. and 6:16 a.m., an unknown suspect forced opened the rear door to 618 E. Live Oak Avenue (Café Sweets) and took the cash register containing approximately $200. A CCTV camera captured the incident. The suspect appears to be wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, with the hood over their head, and dark colored pants. An investigation is pending.
Saturday, December 7:
At approximately 4:26 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of San Antonio Road regarding a residence check after a neighbor reported seeing a back window to the subject residence shattered. When officers arrived, they found the residence unsecured and ransacked. Officer contacted the residents who were out of town. The residence was mostly vacant, and the loss is unknown. There were no CCTV cameras or an alarm system at the location.
