For the period of Sunday, December 8, through Saturday, December 14, the Police Department responded to 881 calls for service of which 100 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of some of the incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, December 8:
At approximately 11:06 p.m., officers responded to a report of two suspicious subjects wearing all black clothing hiding in the alley of the 100 block of Alta Street. Officers arrived in the area and located fresh graffiti on the walls of 220 S. First Avenue (commercial location). A short distance away, officers located one of the subjects, who was in possession of aerosol spray paint and markers that matched the color of the fresh graffiti. Officers were unable to locate the second subject. Arrested was a 15-year-old male juvenile from El Monte. At approximately 3:30 a.m. during an extra patrol of Bonita Park, officers located new graffiti.
Footage from the mobile surveillance camera in the area revealed that at about 10:40 p.m. three subjects vandalized various locations of the park with spray paint and markers. One of the subjects was identified as the juvenile in custody. The juvenile was additionally charged for the vandalism that occurred at the park and later cited and released to his mother.
Monday, December 9:
At approximately 6:06 p.m., an officer was dispatched to 400 S. Baldwin Avenue (Macy’s at The Shops at Santa Anita) regarding a theft suspect in custody. Upon arrival a Macy’s loss prevention employee informed the officer that he witnessed the suspect select several clothing items without checking the size or price. The suspect then exited the location into the mall interior with an armful of merchandise. The suspect did not make any attempt to pay for the merchandise before exiting the location.
