The trip to Catalina Island “The Magic Isle,” by steamer was touted as a “Wonder Trip on a Ferryship to Fairyland” in the 1920s and 30s. The Casino at Avalon was completed in April of 1929, adding to the enjoyment of Island visitors. A complete one day trip, including round trip to Catalina, a ride in glass bottom boat and luncheon at Hotel St. Catherine was $5.00.
The Red Car round trip fare from Los Angeles to the Catalina Terminal at Wilmington was $3.05. Date of prices: 1930.
