Last December, Arcadia’s Troop 125 harvested bags of mistletoe in the local mountains as part of their annual program to offer the mistletoe to area residents in exchange for a donation to a worthy cause.
A small amount of the proceeds go back to the troop to cover expenses and replenish camping supplies. However, the majority of the monies have historically gone to a variety of organizations. Over the years, they have included Boy Scouts of the Philippines, ravaged by Typhoon Haiyan, a Sandy Hook shooting family and the Friends of Scouting.
This time around, the boys picked the Make A Wish Foundation of greater Los Angeles.
This past Monday night, Troop 125, led by Scoutmaster Vincent Tanasale, awarded A $500.00 check to Jennifer Boucher, a Representative of Make a Wish.
Per Ms. Boucher, “Troop 125 was extremely welcoming, and it was a pleasure to accept the check donated to Make A Wish. Some parents even came up to me after the presentation to ask about volunteering.”
Service to the community plays a big part In the operation of this troop. The harvesting, the donation gathering and subsequent donation to a worthy cause, are all collective evidence of this objective.
Troop 125 is 60 years old and is based out of Hugo Reid Elementary School. They are sponsored by the Rancho Santa Anita Homeowners Association. To contact the troop, please email ArcadiaTroop125@gmail.com.
