Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration by East Meets West Parent Education Club

East Meets West Parent Education Club (EMWPEC) sponsored a Chinese New Year celebration on January 28th at the Live Oak Park Community Center in Temple City.

More than 200 people were involved and participated in this important cultural event. The purpose of this community festival was to celebrate the Lunar New Year as well as to raise funds for the club’s charity mission, i.e., to support homeless service centers and women’s shelters in the Los Angeles area. San Marino mayor Dr. Richard Sun presented Chinese New Year family traditions and gave recognition to EWMPEC for its outstanding community services.


Aaron Rose, the president of Arcadia Chinese Association, introduced the image of new China and his living experience in Chengdu province and Beijing. The celebration had many highlights, including various authentic Chinese New Year’s snacks and dishes, children’s new year crafts, dumpling-making demo, traditional calligraphy, Chinese folk dances, Chinese songs, a lion dance (performed by Lion’s Pride Martial Arts), as wells as Shaolin Kung Fu presentation by the Wushu Action Star Academy. There were many local sponsors to support this holiday event, including Gunnoe Realty, Montebello Lube N’ Tune & One Stop Smog, Gradomain LLC, Pasadena Conservatory of Music, Temple City Chinese American Association, Chinese Club of San Marino, Rotary Club of San Marino, Arcadia Chinese Association, San Marino Community Church, San Marino City Club and Trader Joe’s
