Earl Albert, music aficionado, historian, and friend to many of Arcadia’s backyard band groups in the Sixties will be the guest speaker at the monthly Brown Bag lunch talk at 12 noon on Thursday, May 20, at the Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum.
Earl Albert (l) with Gene Glasco (c) and John Cramner (r), circa 1966-68 as members of "The Folkers," which frequently played at the Pasadena Ice House in Pasadena as the warm-up act for the Paul Sykes Trio and African-American folk singer Casey Anderson, as well as Arcadia social gatherings in Arcadia, and venues as far away as San Jose and The Cigar Factory bistro and watering hole on San Luis Obispo's busy Higuera Street.
Gene Glasco, President-elect of the Arcadia Historical Society and former member of bands and folk groups, will host the program called “The Beat Goes On: Arcadia’s Backyard Bands of the Sixties Part II,” that is expected to last until 1 p.m. “A few months ago (attendees of a Brown Bag lunch program) were treated to a presentation about the backyard bands of Arcadia by Pat Robinson, a former Arcadia resident and veteran of such a band,” Glasco noted. “Later, Pat went on to a successful career in music production and management. Earl will portray another interesting but different perspective of Arcadia’s home grown band groups in the Sixties.”
Albert is a 1963 graduate of Arcadia High School. He will be presenting another side of the local band scene of the 60’s; one not quite so successful as Pat Robinson’s but no less fun, and oftentimes just as exciting, Glasco said.
