A recipient of the Presiden’s Volunteer Service Award, East Meets West Parent Education Club (EMWPEC), will be hosting its annual Chinese Lunar New Year Gala to support families affected by recent California wildfires. Last year, EMWPEC held a similar annual event to support earthquake relief efforts in Hualian, Taiwan.
Club president Annie Brassard stated that the families affected by the fire were devastated and couldn’t enjoy the holiday season as many local residents did. She believes the community needs to organize more opportunities to help families in the disaster area.
The gala will take place on February 10, 2019, from 12PM-3PM at the Almansor Court in Alhambra. San Marino city mayor Dr. Steven Huang will be the keynote speaker, sharing his story “Dream Will Come True Sooner or Later.” Congresswoman Judy Chu will be present in recognition of EMWPEC’s outstanding community service achievement. The program will feature many talented young artists presenting cross-cultural masterpieces to celebrate the coming lunar year of Golden Pig. A special lunch buffet will be served at this holiday banquet.
EMWPEC is a 501(c)3 community service nonprofit in San Marino, dedicating in the enhancement of both parent and student development in the Greater San Gabriel Valley School Districts.
