The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of January 14 – 20, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, January 14
At 9:29 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 2000 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 54-year-old
male with a complaint of having a syncopal episode. Fire personnel performed a full
medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and established
intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
Monday, January 15
At 2:55 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 100 block of Wheeler Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 34-year-old male
with a complaint of chest pain. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which
included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, and oxygen
administration. Upon the 12-lead electrocardiogram determination by paramedics, the
patient was experiencing a ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The patient was
transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, January 16
At 1:31 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a vehicle
on its side in the 12000 block of Lower Azusa Road. Upon arrival, there was one patient
that was injured during a semi-truck rollover. The patient was a 59-year-old male with a
complaint of multi-system traumatic injuries. The patient received a full medical evaluation
and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, January 17
At 9:47 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 300 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 70-year-old
female with a chief complaint of having a syncopal episode. The patient received a full
medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram but refused further
medical advice and treatment and chose to remain at home with her family.
Thursday, January 18
At 12:17 p.m., Arcadia Urban Search and Rescue 106, along with Monrovia Truck 101,
Engine 101, and Squad 101, responded to assist with a reported mountain rescue. The
49-year-old male was reported to be in the mountains above Monrovia Canyon Park. Fire
personnel worked to locate the lost and injured hiker that was off trail. The hiker was found
on a steep slope with significant physical trauma. Due to the hiker’s remote location, Los
Angeles County Helicopter 12 was brought in to expedite his extraction and transport to
a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.Friday, January 19
At 1:51 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 1100 block of Rodeo Road for a reported
outdoor type of fire. Fire personnel arrived to find a resident burning vegetation. The fire
was extinguished, and it was explained that burning material outside of an approved
container is against the California Penal Code.
Saturday, January 20
At 10:30 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
in the 200 block of Genoa Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 52-year-old female
with agonal respirations and an altered level of consciousness. Fire personnel performed
a full medical evaluation and identified the patient was suffering from an overdose.
Paramedics quickly administered Narcan to reverse the effects of the overdose and
obtained an electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, and checked the
patient’s blood glucose level. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for
further evaluation and treatment.
