The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of December 17 – 23, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, December 17
At 11:12 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion
105 responded to a report of a gas leak in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon
arrival, the residents were standing outside of the structure due to the odor. Fire personnel
shut down the gas to the residence, and the adjacent homes were checked to ensure
there were no signs of the gas leak. Fire personnel utilized positive pressure ventilation
to ventilate the structure, and Southern California Gas Company was notified of the
incident. There were no patients associated with this incident.
Monday, December 18
At 5:34 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 100 block of Esperanza Avenue in Sierra Madre. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a
64-year-old female with a complaint of weakness and dizziness. The patient received a
full medical evaluation that included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous
therapy. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and
treatment.
Tuesday, December 19
At 10:52 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
in the 5800 block of Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 64-year-old
male with a complaint of a cardiac dysrhythmia. The patient received a full medical
evaluation that included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous therapy. The
patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, December 20
At 10:59 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
in the 1000 block of Oakglen Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 80-year-old
male in cardiac arrest. Fire personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),
assisted ventilations, cardiac monitoring, established intravenous access, administered
cardiac medications, and were able to obtain a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).
The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, December 21
At 7:17 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 1000 block of La Cadena Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 90-year-old
male exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the
patient and confirmed the patient was experiencing a stroke. Fire personnel obtained a
12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, established intravenous access, and
transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 22
At 11:49 a.m., Truck 105 responded to the 400 block of West Longdon Avenue for a
reported fire alarm. Upon arrival, it was quickly determined that there was no fire at the
location and no smoke removal was needed. Fire personnel assisted with resetting the
fire alarm system.
Saturday, December 23
At 5:26 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a two-
vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of East Huntington Drive and Michillinda Avenue.
Upon arrival, there were two patients that were injured in the traffic collision. Patient One
was a 23-year-old female with a facial laceration and Patient Two was a 56-year-old male
with a complaint of chest pain and dizziness. Fire personnel completed a full medical
evaluation of the patients. After being evaluated, both patients were transported to USC
Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
