The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 24 – 30, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, December 24
At 7:21 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion
105 responded to a report of a gas leak in the 1400 block of South Fourth Avenue. Upon
arrival, the residents were found standing outside of the residence with the gas leak. Fire
personnel secured the scene, shut down the gas, and utilized positive pressure ventilation
to ventilate the residence. The origin of the leak was identified as the gas line around the
hot water heater. Southern California Gas Company was notified of the incident. There
were no injuries associated with this incident.
Monday, December 25
At 10:11 a.m., Engine 107 responded to the 1100 block of West Huntington Drive for a
reported outdoor fire. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a shopping cart full of debris on
fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and remains under investigation as it appeared to
be caused by human activity.
Tuesday, December 26
At 1:48 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 1400 block of Oak Meadow Road for a
reported water issue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a water leak that had filled the
basement area of the home. Fire personnel quickly shut down the flowing water and
additional manpower and equipment were requested to mitigate the remaining water
inside of the home.
Wednesday, December 27
At 4:15 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 200 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 19-year-
old female with agonal respirations and an altered level of consciousness. Fire personnel
performed a full medical evaluation and identified the patient was experiencing an
overdose. Paramedics quickly administered Narcan to reverse the effects of the overdose
and obtained an electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, and checked the
patient’s blood glucose level. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for
further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, December 28
At 2:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 85-year-old male
having difficulty breathing. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which
included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and oxygen administration.
As the patient’s condition continued to deteriorate, fire personnel assisted the patient’s
breathing utilizing a bag valve mask (BVM). The patient was transported to USC Arcadia
Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 29
At 7:14 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 100 block of East Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, there was a 63-year-
old patient with a complaint of nausea and dizziness. Fire personnel performed a full
medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure, and
electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, December 30
At 12:42 a.m., Engine 106 and Engine 107 were dispatched to a vehicle fire on the west
bound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle
with a fully involved engine compartment fire located on the shoulder of the freeway. Firepersonnel began fire attack operations with a 1.5" transverse hose line and cut the hood
with a rotary saw. All the occupants were out of the vehicle and there were no reported
injuries.
