Fire Department Weekly Report - June 30 – July 6, 2024

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of June 30 – July 6, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for
this period:

Sunday, June 30
At 11:06 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a vehicle
fire near the 200 block of Genoa Street. Upon
arrival, Engine 105 found a vehicle fire with no
occupants inside. Engine 105 Fire personnel
initiated an aggressive attack on the fire with a 1.5”
hose line. The fire was extinguished and confined
to the engine compartment. The driver exited the
vehicle without injury. The Arcadia Police
Department assisted with traffic control during
firefighting operations.
Monday, July 1
At 10:37 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident
in the 700 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, Engine 106 and Rescue
Ambulance 106 found an 83-year-old patient with a complaint of allergic reaction. Fire
personnel completed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead
electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, and an IV with Benadryl. Rescue
Ambulance 106 transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation.
Tuesday, July 2
At 6:44 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion
105 responded to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of South Fifth Avenue. Truck
105 was the first unit on scene and reported that the fire was an outside fire started by a
resident. Fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire and advised the resident to not burn
materials in his backyard. Truck 105 and Engine 105 handled the incident, and all other
resources were cancelled.
Wednesday, July 3
At 12:16 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
near the 00 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, Engine 105 and Rescue
Ambulance 105 found a 71-year-old person with a complaint of difficulty breathing. Fire
personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead
electrocardiogram, established intravenous access, administered oxygen, and obtained
a complete set of vital signs. The patient deteriorated quickly, and Fire personnel assisted
the patient’s breathing with a bag-valve-mask (BVM). Rescue Ambulance 105
transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation.
Thursday, July 4
At 11:42 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of
Santa Clara Avenue for a 57-year-old patient experiencing body pain. Firefighters arrived
to find the patient exhibiting a mental health crisis. This patient was transported to USC
Arcadia Hospital for further care and evaluation.
Friday, July 5
At 5:38 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 11900 block of Goldring Road for a reported
fire alarm. Firefighters arrived to find a forklift inside of a warehouse that accidentally
struck a fire sprinkler, causing the fire sprinkler head to fail and the alarm to sound.
Firefighters shut down the water to the fire sprinkler system, replaced the sprinkler head,
and assisted with water removal. No one was injured during this incident.Saturday, July 6
At 5:29 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a report of victims trapped inside
an elevator in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, Truck 105 Fire
personnel found a stalled elevator car with a single occupant inside. Fire personnel
accessed the elevator’s control room where the elevator car was reset electronically.
Upon its reset, Truck 105 Fire personnel were able to extricate the occupants from the
elevator without damage. The single occupant refused medical assistance and was
released on scene. The elevator car was placed out-of-service, and the property
management company was contacted for repair.
