The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of March 10 – 16, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this
time period:
Sunday, March 10
At 10:15 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 900 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 73-year-old patient
with a complaint of a hypertensive crisis with weakness and dizziness. Fire personnel
performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure
check, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for
further evaluation and treatment.
Monday, March 11
At 7:10 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a traumatic
injury incident in the 100 block of West Las Flores Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 90-
year-old patient with a complaint of an altered level of consciousness after a fall. Fire
personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood
pressure check, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to Huntington
Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, March 12
At 4:27 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported outdoor type of fire in the 400 block of
North Santa Anita Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find a fully involved dumpster fire
with no exposure issues. One handline was used to quickly control the fire. The cause of
the fire remains under investigation.
Wednesday, March 13
At 5:44 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and BLS 106 responded to a reported
traffic collision in the 2600 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Fire personnel arrived to find a
single-vehicle traffic collision involving a 52-year-old male and an 11-year-old male with
minor injuries. Both patients were evaluated, treated, and released on scene.
Thursday, March 14
At 3:59 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Engine 41, Engine 37, Truck 105, Haz Mat 12,
Haz Mat 24, Battalion 105, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a hazardous
materials incident in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Fire personnel ascended to the
sixth floor and found one patient complaining of a headache after exposure to an odor.
The patient was assessed but refused treatment and transport. The building was
evacuated due to unknown origin of the odor. After investigating, fire personnel found the
odor to be from paint thinner utilized during construction in one of the suites on the first
floor. The building owner and maintenance manager were notified of the incident.
Friday, March 15
At 3:59 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, BLS 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106
responded to a report of a traffic collision with an overturned vehicle at the intersection of
Second Avenue and Fano Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel located a solo overturned
vehicle on its roof in the middle of the street. Paramedics performed a full trauma
assessment on the driver of the vehicle who had self-extricated. The driver sustained
lacerations to his left arm from the accident and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital
for further evaluation and treatment. Arcadia police officers remained on scene to assist
with traffic control.
Saturday, March 16
At 12:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a
motorcycle versus vehicle incident at the intersection of Arcadia Avenue and Baldwin
Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an 18-year-old male with a complaint of leg deformity
and trauma. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation that included vitals, 12-
lead electrocardiogram, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC
Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
