Fire Department Weekly Report - October 1 – 7, 2023

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week

of October 1 – 7, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this

time period:

Sunday, October 1

At 1:56 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of smoke in the area near the 600 block

of South Michillinda Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a rubbish fire in the subterranean

parking level of the structure. Fire personnel utilized a fire extinguisher to extinguish the

fire. Fire personnel overhauled the area to ensure that the smoke and fire were fully

extinguished. Fire Investigator 107 was dispatched to the scene and the cause of the fire

is under investigation.

Monday, October 2

At 4:18 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in

the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 18-month-

old female with a complaint of shortness of breath. Fire personnel performed a full medical

evaluation which included an electrocardiogram and administered an albuterol breathing

treatment. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and

treatment.

Tuesday, October 3

At 11:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident

in the 1200 block of South Tenth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 77-year-

old female with a complaint of a syncopal episode. Fire personnel performed a full medical

evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous access. The

patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, October 4

At 10:54 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in

the 200 block of Ilene Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 87-year-old male

who was suffering from a possible stroke. The patient received advanced life support

including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring.

The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, October 5

At 4:20 p.m., Engine 105 and Pasadena Engine 37 responded to a vehicle fire on the

westbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a

passenger vehicle burning on the side of the freeway. Fire personnel rapidly deployed

hose lines and extinguished the fire with water and foam solution. Once the fire was

extinguished, personnel released the scene to California Highway Patrol for further

investigation and removal.


Friday, October 6

At 2:52 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a two-

vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of Duarte Road and Second Avenue. Upon

arrival, there were two patients, one 57-year-old male and one 76-year-old female, that

were involved in the accident. Both patients received a full medical evaluation which

included intravenous access, blood pressure monitoring, and electrocardiogram. Both

were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, October 7

At 5:37 p.m. Engine 107 and Engine 41 responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 1200

block of Orlando Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a well involved vehicle fire in

front of the residence and witnessed the fuel tank rupture causing an explosion. Fire

personnel initiated an aggressive attack on the fire with a 1.5” hose line. Fire personnel

extinguished the fire and prevented the fire from progressing into trees overhead and

surrounding structures. The damage was contained to the vehicle of origin and two

parked vehicles in the area. Arcadia Police Department assisted with traffic control during

firefighting operations. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
