The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of October 8 – 14, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this
time period:
Sunday, October 8
At 4:06 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded with Los Angeles County
Fire Department to the 9000 block of Huntington Drive to a report of smoke in a structure.
Upon arrival, Truck 105 was assigned to assess a malfunctioning air-conditioning unit on
the roof. Fire personnel placed the aerial ladder in service and ascended to the roof for
investigation. The malfunctioning unit was located, and the power was shut down via the
service disconnect. The main electrical panel was restored, and the business remained
open for operation.
Monday, October 9
At 8:30 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
on South Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 24-year-old female with
agonal respirations and altered level of consciousness. Fire personnel performed a full
medical evaluation and identified the patient was suffering from an overdose. Paramedics
quickly administered Narcan to reverse the effects and obtained an electrocardiogram,
intravenous access, and a blood glucose check. The patient was transported to USC
Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, October 10
At 7:56 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in
the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 61-year-old
female who was having difficulty breathing. The patient received advanced life support
including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring.
The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, October 11
At 6:00 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in
the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 91-
year-old female who was suffering from a possible stroke. The patient received advanced
life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose
monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation
and treatment.
Thursday, October 12
At 11:23 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of an outside fire near Baldwin Avenue
and the 210 Freeway. Fire personnel arrived on scene to find a pile of miscellaneous
materials burning under the bridge. Fire personnel utilized a fire extinguisher to extinguish
the fire. There was a similar fire that occurred at Los Angeles County Arboretum, so an
arson investigator was requested. Both fires remain under investigation.
Friday, October 13
At 7:54 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105,
and Battalion 105 responded to a report of an electrical fire in the 300 block of West
Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find an exit sign with smoke. The exit sign was
removed, and the faulty wiring was replaced. Fire personnel utilized a thermal imaging
camera to check that there was no residual heat around the wiring or in the walls. No
other damage was found, and the building was released to the on-site manager.
Saturday, October 14
At 11:28 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident
in the 400 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an 86-year-old
male with a chief complaint of chest pain. Fire personnel performed a full medical
evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, and
administration of aspirin and nitroglycerin. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia
Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Fire Prevention Week
During the reporting period, our crews were out visiting different schools, spreading
important fire safety messages, and teaching fire safety techniques. This year’s theme
was “Cooking safety starts with YOU.”
