The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of December 29 – January 4, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types
recorded for this period:
Sunday, December 29
At 3:17 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106,
and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision on the westbound
210 Freeway at Huntington Drive. The incident involved three patients with one requiring
extrication. All three patients received full medication evaluations; two were transported
to the nearest hospital and one was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Monday, December 30
At 6:36 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 200 block of East Live Oak Avenue for a
reported smoking vehicle. Fire suppression personnel arrived to find a street sweeper
powered by compressed natural gas with smoke and fire coming from the top of the
vehicle. The debris inside the vehicle was burning; therefore, it was quickly unloaded onto
the street and extinguished. No injuries were reported, and the damage to the vehicle
was limited to minor paint damage.
Tuesday, December 31
At 10:06 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of
East Huntington Drive for a reported person down. Fire suppression personnel arrived at
a restaurant and found a 75-year-old female not breathing and without a pulse following
a choking incident. Paramedics quickly began CPR and performed airway management
techniques to clear the airway. The care revived the patient, and the patient received
medications, electrocardiogram (EKG), and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for
further treatment.
Wednesday, January 1
At 6:30 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 102, Rescue Ambulance 105, and BLS 106 responded
to the eastbound 210 Freeway for a reported traffic collision. Fire suppression personnel
arrived to find a five-vehicle traffic collision. Paramedics evaluated all occupants involved
and found two patients with minor injuries. Both patients were transported to USC Arcadia
Hospital for further treatment.
Thursday, January 2
At 1:48 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a report of a natural gas odor in the 1200 block of
Oakglen Avenue. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found all residents standing
outside the area. It was determined that one residence had a slow gas leak in the front
yard. A secure perimeter around the leak was established and Southern California Gas
Company was called to respond to the incident. Multiple leaks were identified in the gas
main, and a gas company representative remained on scene to complete the repairs.
Friday, January 3
At 11:01 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of an
automobile versus pedestrian incident at the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Santa
Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found one injured male who had
been struck by a car traveling at approximately 30 to 40 miles per hour and sustained
multi-system traumatic injuries. The patient received a full medical evaluation which
included intravenous therapy, blood pressure test, EKG, and was transported to
Huntington Hospital for further treatment.
Saturday, January 4
At 8:16 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 400 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel
encountered a 96-year-old female complaining of a shortness of breath. The patientreceived a full medical evaluation which included intravenous therapy, blood pressure
test, EKG, and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.
