The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of January 21 – 27, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this
time period:
Sunday, January 21
At 1:05 p.m., Engine 105, Rescue Ambulance 105,
and Engine 37 responded to a reported traffic
collision on the west bound 210 Freeway. Upon
arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic
collision and located one patient who was suffering
from hypotension. Paramedics administered
oxygen and established intravenous access to
provide fluid replenishment. The patient was
transported to Huntington Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
Monday, January 22
At 1:49 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Engine 106 responded to a two-vehicle traffic
collision on the west bound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a
64-year-old female that had a complaint of neck and back pain after being involved in the
collision. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Tuesday, January 23
At 6:40 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a refuge fire in the 100 block of West
Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a trash pile that was smoking. The
fire was located in front of a business, but no flames were threatening the structure. Fire personnel utilized a booster hose line to extinguish the fire as well as hand tools and foam
to ensure that the fire was extinguished and contained to
the area of origin.
Wednesday, January 24
At 11:17 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue
Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 300
block of South Second Avenue for a traffic collision with a
person reported to be trapped. Fire personnel arrived to find a single-vehicle accident with one elderly female trapped.
Fire personnel stabilized the vehicle and utilized hydraulic rescue tools to safely extricate the occupant. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Thursday, January 25
At 7:39 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105
responded to the 100 block of Diamond Avenue for a traffic collision. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic collision that sheared off a fire hydrant and one occupant requiring medical attention. Paramedics attended to the 25-year-old male suffering from abdominal pain, and the patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Fire personnel ensured scene safety and closed water main valves to control the flowing water.
Friday, January 26
At 5:16 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a
reported electrical fire in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire
personnel reported a single-story outbuilding with light smoke showing from the eave line.
Fire personnel investigated further to find a malfunctioning light ballast causing a small
fire on the interior of the roof. Bystanders on-site utilized a dry chemical extinguisher to
knock down some of the fire and fire personnel extended a 1.5” attack line to extinguish
the fire completely and checked for further fire extension. Fire personnel assessed the
roof and found no further extension of the fire. The power to the building was de-energized
and the property manager was advised to have an electrician troubleshoot the issue
further.
Saturday, January 27
At 1:35 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical
patient in the 1400 block of South Third Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an 82-year-old
patient with a complaint of a hypertensive crisis. Fire personnel performed a full medical
evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure test, and
electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
