The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 5 – 11, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:
Sunday, January 5
At 12:45 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident
in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, there was a 36-year-old female with
a complaint of nausea and vomiting with abdominal pain. Paramedics provided a
complete medical assessment which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and
intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
treatment.
Monday, January 6
At 4:04 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a fire alarm call in the 100 block of Las Tunas
Drive. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found a sprinkler activation inside a
restaurant. Water to the building was quickly shut off, and water was evacuated from the
business. Los Angeles County Health Department was called to complete a business
inspection.
Tuesday, January 7
At 9:10 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of arcing wires in the 2000 block
of Woodland Avenue in San Marino for an automatic aid assignment. A streetlight had an
electrical fire and Arcadia crew secured the area, ensured that the fire was extinguished
and contained to the area of origin, and contacted Southern California Edison the electrical issue.
Wednesday, January 8
At 9:00 p.m., Battalion 105, Engine 343, Engine 106, and Engine 1613 responded to the
upper Hastings Ranch area for the Eaton Fire. Multiple structures were threatened, and
Arcadia crews collaborated with several other agencies to provide structure defense on
several properties in the East Pasadena area.
Thursday, January 9
Arcadia crews collaborated with multiple agencies to provide structure preparation and
defense in the Canyon Road area of Arcadia. Strike teams and task forces from Los
Angeles County, Orange County, and Arizona prepared structures for the approaching
fire and protected them as the fire passed through. Although multiple structures were
threatened, none were lost in Arcadia. After the fire moved through the city, Arcadia crews
conducted mop-up operations to prevent the fire from reigniting.
Friday, January 10
Arcadia crews and various strike teams continued to conduct mop-up operations in parts
of Arcadia that were affected by the fire. Fire suppression personnel walked the fire’s
edge, conducted damage assessments, constructed fire lines, and assisted utility
workers. Our department’s goal was to eliminate any remaining fire danger and ensure
the area was safe for residents to return.
Saturday, January 11
At 10:00 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of an electrical outlet malfunction in the
1000 block of Bungalow Place. Upon arrival, fire suppression personnel found a smoking
outlet that the resident had extinguished with a fire extinguisher. The area was secured,
the fire was contained to the area of origin, and the electrical panel that was supplying
the outlet was shut off. The resident was advised to contact an electrician to repair the
malfunctioning outlet.
Badge Pinning Ceremony
On January 7, families, friends, and colleagues
gathered at Headquarters Station for the Badge Pinning Ceremony of our department’s newest Ambulance Operators (AOs). Chief Suen introduced each new member and Assistant City Clerk was in attendance to get the new recruits sworn in.
Community Support
During this reporting period, many of our fire
suppression personnel were sent to provide aid for Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire. Many members from various communities donated to the department
meals, snacks, water, etc. to show their appreciation.
