The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 26 – December 2, 2023. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, November 26
At 11:57 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a bicyclist
down at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel
found a 56-year-old female with a traumatic injury to her left shoulder and left leg. Fire
personnel performed a full trauma assessment, an electrocardiogram, established
intravenous access, and pain medication administration. Paramedics determined the
patient met trauma criteria and transported the patient to Huntington Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
Monday, November 27
At 8:29 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in
the 800 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 79-year-
old male who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life
support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose
monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation
and treatment.
Tuesday, November 28
At 12:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in
the 700 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 73-year-
old female who was suffering from general weakness. The patient received advanced life
support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient
was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Wednesday, November 29
At 10:15 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 600 block of South Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, there was a 90-year-
old female with an altered level of consciousness. Fire personnel performed a full medical
evaluation of the patient that included vitals, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and intravenous
therapy. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and
treatment.
Thursday, November 30
At 5:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical
incident in the 200 block of California Street. Upon arrival, there was a 39-year-old female
with a complaint of nausea and vomiting. The patient had flu-like symptoms and tested
COVID-19 positive. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation of the patient that
included vitals, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and intravenous therapy. The patient was
transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Friday, December 1
At 5:27 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of a smoke detector activation in the 1100
block of West Duarte Road. The building residents were standing outside when fire
personnel arrived. The residents stated that the fire alarm pull station was accidentally
activated by a child. Fire personnel were able to gain access to the fire alarm control room
and reset the pull station.
Saturday, December 2
At 8:12 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 100 block of East Colorado Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 30-year-
old male with a chief complaint of having difficulty breathing and swelling in his throat
after eating. Paramedics determined the patient was suffering from an allergic reaction
and rapidly began administering Benadryl. Fire personnel also obtained a complete setof vital signs, 12- lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose check, and assessed the
patient’s lung sounds. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further
evaluation and treatment.
