The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week
of December 1 – 7, 2024. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this
period:
Sunday, December 1
At 2:55 p.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to
Chantry Flats’ hiking area for a reported unconscious hiker. A ground team initiated the
search for the hiker and a helicopter was requested to assist with expediting the search.
The hiker was quickly visualized by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Air Five and a
paramedic was lowered to the ground to evaluate the hiker. The hiker was found to have
suffered from fatal traumatic injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Monday, December 2
At 3:27 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and BLS 106 responded to the 700
block of Estrella Avenue for a reported traffic collision. Fire crews arrived to find an
accident involving a 78-year-old female. This patient received advanced life support
protocols including intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, blood glucose testing,
bandaging, and was transported to Huntington Hospital for further treatment.
Tuesday, December 3
At 1:57 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 100 block of Wheeler Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found an 86-year-old female
exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient
and identified the patient was experiencing a stroke. The patient received a 12-lead
electrocardiogram (EKG), blood glucose check, intravenous access, and was transported
to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.
Wednesday, December 4
At 4:37 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in
the 700 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 59-year-old male
with a complaint of general weakness. The patient explained he had recently finished his
dialysis process at a clinic when the symptoms occurred. The patient received a full
medical evaluation which included a 12-lead EKG, intravenous therapy, and was
transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment.
Thursday, December 5
At 8:51 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in
the 200 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews were directed to the pool
area for a 15-year-old male that was found at the bottom of the pool, and found bystanders
had pulled out the patient from the pool and initiated CPR. Paramedics quickly began
resuscitation efforts, and the patient began breathing on his own. The patient received
intravenous access, blood glucose reading, and was transported to a local hospital for
further treatment.
Friday, December 6
At 12:07 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident
in the 1700 block of El Vista Circle. Upon arrival, fire crews found an 82-year-old male
exhibiting stroke symptoms. Paramedics performed a series of stroke tests on the patient
and identified the patient was experiencing a stroke. The patient received a 12-lead EKG,
blood glucose check, intravenous access, and was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital
for further treatment.
Saturday, December 7
At 1:43 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Engine 101, Engine 102, Truck 105,
Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 10, and Battalion 105 were dispatched to
a reported structure fire in the 200 block of East Floral Avenue. Truck 105 crew was
assigned to ventilation and assess for extension into the attic space; Battalion 105established Forest incident command; Engine 107 crew was assigned to fire attack;
Engine 105 crew assisted with extinguishment of the accessory dwelling units and began
overhauling the structures. Monrovia Fire Department units responded to assist with
water supply and established a Rapid Intervention Company1, and Arcadia Police
Department responded to assist with traffic control of the surrounding area. The fire was
extinguished within 20 minutes; Arcadia Building Department responded to assess the
structures and red tagged2 the accessory dwelling units.
