A trip to the Mt. Lowe Railway on the Red Car started in Los Angeles. You were deposited in Rubio Canyon (Altadena) at the foot of the world’s famous Incline Railway, and in a few minutes, you would be looking over a panorama of cities, orange groves and in the distance … the Pacific Ocean. At the top of the incline a special train would take you three and a half miles up the mountains on a scenic railway making 127 curves, crossing 18 bridges … a thrill every minute.
The train ended at Mt. Lowe Tavern and a chance to go horseback riding to the summit, a ride on the one-man-and mule railway, a visit to the silver fox farm, a game of tennis on a mountain top court, a walk to Inspiration Point or an overnight stay at one of the 40 cottages. Round trip fare was $4.00.
