Multiple business burglaries

The Arcadia Police Department responded to 902 calls for service from Sunday, Feb. 14 to Saturday, Feb. 20, of which 126 required formal investigations. Here is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the officers of the Arcadia Police Department during this period. (Listed in crime categories created by Arcadia’s Best).

Residential burglaries/personal theft *A victim came to the station around 10:33 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, to file a theft report. He indicated that he left his wallet at Hope International Church, 1741 South Baldwin, on Feb. 13 around 12 noon, and at 5 p.m. a credit card company notified him that $1,700 in cash was withdrawn from San Manuel Casino. * Between 8:45 a.m. and 1:51 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, a residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of West Naomi. Unknown suspect(s) entered the home by unknown means, ransacked rooms, and stole cash and jewelry. * Units responded to an audible burglary alarm in the 400 block of Walnut around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17. Upon arrival, officers found the front door of the residence open and rooms ransacked. The victim advised that cash, coins, and an expensive diamond ring were stolen.

Business burglary/theft * Shortly after midnight Sunday, Feb. 14, officers responded to Walgreens, 253 East Foothill, regarding an audible burglary alarm. Offsite security advised that their surveillance video showed four male suspects smash a window with rocks to enter the business. The suspects then stole 25 packs of cigarettes and fled the scene. * Around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, units were dispatched to the 300 block of Laurel in reference to several juveniles seen stealing a scooter from a backyard. Three Caucasian juveniles, two 16-year-old male subjects and a 17-year-old female subject, matching the suspects’ descriptions were detained in the 900 block of West Foothill. They were positively identified as the individuals involved in the theft. Further investigation revealed that the two male juveniles were also involved in the burglary at Walgreens. The two boys were charged with commercial burglary, petty theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of tobacco; the girl was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of tobacco, and possession of alcohol. * Loss prevention personnel from Abercrombie & Fitch came to the station around 1:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, to report a commercial burglary that occurred at 2:13 p.m. on February 12. A security footage showed a male Hispanic and a female subject enter the store empty-handed. The female suspect distracted an employee while the male suspect left the store with a large Disney bag filled with merchandise. The suspects stole 130 t-shirts worth about $3,900. * Around 2:32 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, loss prevention personnel from Macy’s advised that they had detained a male juvenile for theft. The suspect was seen removing tags and security sensors with pliers from three pairs of jeans while in a fitting room. He then placed the merchandise in a shopping bag and left the store without making payment. A private person’s arrest was made, and a 17-year-old Asian was taken into custody for commercial burglary and possession of burglary tool. * Loss prevention personnel from Sports Chalet advised that they had detained two African-American juveniles for theft around 6:18 p.m.  Saturday, Feb. 20. The juveniles removed BB guns from their packages and concealed them in their pants, along with a box of BB pellets. Private persons’ arrests were made, and the juveniles, ages 14 and 16, were taken into custody for commercial burglary and possession of tobacco. They were later cited and released to a case worker from a group home.

Auto burglary Between 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 and 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 19, four auto burglaries were reported at 938 West Huntington. Unknown suspect(s) smashed car windows and stole miscellaneous property, including tools, cash, purse, and camera.

Vehicle theft Three vehicle thefts occurred at Westfield Mall between 4:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. A 1997 champagne Honda Accord, a 2000 white Honda Civic, and a 1991 white Honda Accord were stolen from the parking lot/structure.

Drugs and alcohol * Shortly after midnight Monday, Feb. 15, a traffic accident occurred at Sunset and Duarte. While the victim was stopped at a traffic signal, a drunk driver rear-ended his vehicle. A 51-year-old male Hispanic driver was arrested for DUI and unlicensed driver. * Shortly before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, officers were called to the 00 block of Wisteria in reference to a 38-year-old woman who had overdosed on heroin. The victim was resuscitated by paramedics and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A 43-year-old male Caucasian resident was contacted and heroin and drug paraphernalia were found throughout the home and backyard. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and hypodermic needles, and felony parole violation. * Around 1:57 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, units were sent to Santa Anita and Huntington regarding a welfare check. An intoxicated 63-year-old male Caucasian was located and it was determined that he was unable to care for himself. The man also had a valid infraction warrant, so he was taken into custody. * A car was located in the 100 block of North First around 9:59 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, with a warrant attached to the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and a 22-year-old male African-American driver was contacted. He initially provided officers with a false name, but once his true identity was ascertained, record checks revealed that he had a suspended license and five outstanding misdemeanor warrants totaling $245,000. He was taken into custody and three small baggies of marijuana were found on his person during the booking process.
