The Arcadia City Council opened the regular meeting last night, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, by noting that the Council opted after a long study session just before the meeting not to take any action regarding a proposal at the last meeting by newly-appointed Council Member Mickey Segal to put a moratorium on the demolishing of homes.

There was quite a bit of public comment about this as expected — the Study Session was moved from the conference room to the larger full City Council Chambers — but ultimately it was clear that the proponents could not get the required four votes from the five-member Council, so the proposal died for lack of a motion calling for a vote.
Lost in all the acrimony at City Council meetings these days over everything from trying to limit the size of new homes to the resignation of Council Member John Wuo in the wake of investigations related to improper use of his office relative to a business called Gem Coins to a ballot initiative proposing to repeal utility users taxes, are the many presentations to noteworthy citizens and local groups who do our city proud.
Last night Mayor Kovacic made three such presentations:
Historical Society President Karen Hou thanks Mayor Kovacic for the recognition.
Certificate of Commendation to Arcadia Historical Society in appreciation for their efforts in renovating a new office space and creating historical exhibits that also serve to bring awareness to and showcase the historic Prince Erik Hall building behind the Arcadia Congregational Church on Santa Anita Avenue just north of Live Oak. Society President Karen Hou and former Presidents Gene Glasco and Carol Libby, as well as other Society board members accepted the certificate.
Proclamation to Arcadia Music Club in celebration of the 62nd annual Arcadia Festival of Bands on Nov. 21.
Dolores Foley thanks the City Council for the proclamation.
Proclamation to longtime Arcadia residents and volunteers Vince and Dolores Foley for their years of service as they move to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dolores said she loved the community and loved shopping at Westfield Santa Anita mall. Vince took the opportunity to blast three people who have been instigators of efforts to restrict the size of homes and to repeal the utility users tax. He said the three are destroying Arcadia.
The Mayor also thanked and recognized Don Fandry shortly after City Clerk Gene Glasco administered the oath of office to the newly-appointed Arcadia Beautiful Commission member.
