Coney Island may have Nathan’s hot dog eating contest on July 4th for their Independence Day celebration, but Arcadia will have the famous Pink’s hot dogs from Hollywood on September 12 for the “Stars and Stripes” Community Picnic from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at City Hall (240 West Huntington Drive).
In addition to the rare treat of being able to enjoy a Pink’s hot dog without driving to L.A. and waiting for more than an hour, two highlights of the afternoon will be a salute to Arcadia’s Hometown Heroes and the first Arcadia’s Got Talent Competition where Arcadians will compete for cash prizes and the first place title.
Other activities include a Kid’s Fun Zone; old-fashioned games such as sack races, tug-o-war and a water balloon toss; a bounce house; Junior Firefighter Obstacle Course; baseball speed pitch; music and Bernie, the “read aloud” dog.
City Departments will be on hand with games and activities pertaining to their area of responsibility. Spin the wheel in the Development Services corner for a chance to win a prize. Show us your knowledge of recycling and go home with a gift. Stop by the balloon artist/magician’s area and pick-up a customized balloon sculpture.
Bring a chair or blanket for seating and a friend or neighbor for company. Free parking is available at City hall until filled.
The City of Arcadia would like to thank the Arcadia Chinese Association for their support of this event and financial contribution.
The picnic will kick-off with a tribute to Arcadians currently on active duty in the military.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the first “Arcadia’s Got Talent” competition. If you were born to be a star and want to show off your talent for a chance to win the $300 first prize, get your registration form in now. Two age divisions are offered – 13 and under and 14 and above.
An application package is available on the City of Arcadia website.
There will be a cash award for second and third place finishers as well.
