The first incident involved a suspect stealing one of our GPS Bait Packages in the southend of town. As our officers tracked down the suspect in his vehicle, he tried to evade arrest and a short pursuit occurred. The suspect ultimately abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot into the residential area near Second Avenue and Las Flores Avenue. Our SWAT Team happened to be training yesterday, and they helped our field officers by conducting a neighborhood search for the suspect (along with our K9 Units) for well over an hour. SWAT Officers and a K9 located the suspect hiding in a trash can in the 300 block of Coyle Avenue. The suspect was identified as a 39-year old repeat offender currently on PRCS that was driving a stolen vehicle with numerous items in it suggesting he was also a residential burglar (burglaries appeared to have occurred outside our City at this time).
The second case involved a reported suspicious vehicle in our North Area of town. One of our Detectives located the suspicious vehicle in the area of Santa Anita and Colorado and patrol officers assisted with an investigative stop. The car had five male, black suspects in it, ranging between 16-18 years old, with items and evidence suggesting they were involved with residential burglaries. One of the suspects was also armed with a loaded handgun. The suspects were from the San Bernardino Area. We arrested all five for various charges to include suspicion of attempted residential burglary, etc. It appears thus far that we detained and arrested these suspects while they were capering our neighborhoods before they could commit a residential burglary.
