Romo & Romo feted as Citizens of Year

Shelly and Jim Romo were honored as Citizens of the Year by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Thursday evening (March 21, 2013). Before the couple addressed the nearly 200 attendees at the elegant Chandelier Room at Santa Anita Park, Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick introduced past Citizens of the Year in attendance: Vince Foley, Mary Hansen, Jim Helms, Gary Kovacic, Carol Libby, Monty Lindsey, Lee & Mickey Segal, Sho Tay, and this past year’s Citizen of the Year from 2012-13, Alice Wang.

Next was the introduction of Councilman Kovacic, who won this same award a few years ago, and was introduced by his UCLA Bruins buddy Jim Romo. He introduced the Romos by showing an amusing PowerPoint slide presentation. New Chamber President Arlynn Robinson then presented the Romos with the Citizens of the Year Award, followed by a special proclamation from Arcadia Unified School District Deputy Superintendent David Vanasdall.

After presentations by Mayor Bob Harbicht and other legislative reps, the Romos came to the microphone to thank their family members in attendance and the support of their friends. They thanked the Chamber for the award and expressed their love of volunteering in the community.

Before presenting the final award, Hettrick showcased the world premiere of the Chamber’s new tourist video, “Arcadia’s Got It All,” narrated by City Clerk and Arcadia Historical Society President Gene Glasco, and co-produced by Chamber board member Andrew Gregson at the Executive Factor.
