Arcadia has lost one of its consistently lowest-priced gas stations — the Arco station on the southeast corner of Santa Anita Ave. and Duarte Road. The building was leveled this week.
Arco station at Duarte and Santa Anita closed for good, soon to be replaced by a Shell station with a 7-11 convenience store.
A new combination Shell station and 7-Eleven convenience store is applying for approvals to replace the Arco station, which would mark a return for Shell to Arcadia since the longtime Shell station and little-used car wash on Santa Anita closed several years ago. It would also be the immediate area’s only 7-Eleven, with the closest ones being on Baldwin Avenue and on Live Oak. Approvals and construction are expected to take several months.
Meanwhile, gas prices dropped a couple cents at several stations after jumping as much as 20-cents at some stations since the holidays.
Prices vary widely around town, with one station 24-cents higher than a competitor right across the street. Meanwhile, one of the lowest-priced stations — the Arco at Duarte and Santa Anita — remains under construction.
