Longtime Arcadia and Arcadia’s Best blogger Larry Stewart has co-written a book about podiatrist Dr. Michael Levi’s longtime relationship with UCLA basketball coaching legend John Wooden.
The book,
Wednesdays with Wooden, is available at the FriesenPress web site or at Amazon.com, where shipping charges are less. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Hirschberg Foundation For Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Stewart tells Arcadia’s Best that Dr. Levi, whose practice is in Santa Monica, made many house calls to the coach’s home in Encino starting in 2002 to treat his arthritic feet. A special bond developed between the two, much more than patient-doctor. The bond was similar to the one Dr. Levi had with his own father. This 91-page, easy-to-read book is tribute to both the Coach and Dr. Levi’s father. Both men died in 2010.
There have been many books written about Coach Wooden. This one provides some new insights and anecdotes, and also brings back memories of the glory days of UCLA basketball.
Several book signings are being planned.
