In 1952, when Parker Lyon’s Pony Express Museum was sold and its contents moved to Reno, Nevada, the site was cleared for development. A complex was built and opened in 1953 as the “Flamingo Hotel “ And, yes, there were live flamingos on the grounds. The Ramada Inn was built in the late 1960s to replace the Flamingo. Then the Santa Anita Inn, built by owner Charles Bluth, held its grand opening on February 9, 1986, which was also a fundraiser for the Arcadia Educational Foundation. Hundreds of trees were planted in the center court and along the east side of Huntington Drive.
Today, another hotel complex, one by Marriott, is being developed. Has any other piece of property in Arcadia had as many major changes?
