Walk of Champions coming to Arcadia

There have been so many champions in Arcadia that former Mayor Gail Marsall and former Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Beth Costanza have decided it’s time to celebrate, commemorate, and memorialize the likes of Seabiscuit and the legions of other famous race horses, jockeys, and trainers with a new Thoroughbred Racing Walk of Champions right here in Arcadia where most of them gained their prominence at Santa Anita Park.

The women who have formed a sub-committee of the Arcadia Historical Society discussed their plans in an HRTV interview Thursday morning (click here to see 3 1/2-min video). Funds are being raised now to install and unveil the first 50 plaques in the sidewalks along Huntington Drive in Arcadia’s historic downtown area. Plaques will be installed near the famous Derby restaurant and also at the new Gold Line train station on First Avenue at Santa Clara, all leading to Santa Anita Avenue and eventually to Santa Anita Park race track. To find out more, to donate, and to become a founding sponsor, go to Thoroughbred Racing Walk of Champions at ArcadiaHistoricalSociety.org.
